We need your medical and mental health signs!

We need Auslan interpreters and Australian deaf people to help us develop Medical Signbank.

How you can help us…

Please use this Auslan Signbank site regularly to check medical signs, and tell us if signs are wrong or missing. The best time to do this is just after you have been to a medical appointment while you still remember the signs you used.

Search for the medical signs you used by typing in the English word, or the first few letters of the word. If that sign is not in Signbank, or if there is a sign there, but you think it is not correct, please tell us what sign YOU use.

How? Follow the instructions here at Signbank to give us feedback. You can give feedback in two ways:

  1. Describe the sign by selecting different information (e.g., handshape, movement, etc) OR
  2. You can make a simple and rough video clip of the sign so you don’t have to try to explain it in words. You can then upload your feedback and the video to us at Signbank. We will not show this video clip online. Any video clip of a sign you provide us will be re-filmed using our deaf consultant, so you don’t have to worry about suddenly seeing yourself on Signbank!

We will try to put all your suggestions on Signbank. This means you can share your knowledge and experience with other deaf people and interpreters and learn from them. It is important to share this information with your colleagues and with the deaf community.

Thanking you in advance for your contributions!
