Many people have lent their time and skills to the Auslan Signbank project. Here
are some of the parties who have helped in making the Auslan Signbank a reality.
The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC)
The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children
is proud to be part of Auslan Signbank.
The Telstra Foundation
The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children gratefully acknowledges
the generous financial support from the
Telstra Foundation
to the Auslan Signbank project at Renwick College and to the family
and parent's Auslan project at the Deaf Education Network.
Together the financial support to Renwick College and
Deaf Education Network
from Telstra has made Auslan Signbank
possible.
Associate Professor Trevor Johnston
Auslan Signbank exists only through the existence of the Auslan
lexical database which has been complied over the past two decades
by Associate Professor Trevor Johnston, Renwick College,
Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children.
The Auslan database has previously
been used to produce several editions of the dictionaries of Auslan
("Auslan Dictionary", "Signs of Australia",
"Discovering Auslan", and "Survival Guide to Auslan"),
in both book and CD-ROM formats, which have been published by North
Rocks Press. All of these dictionaries have been authored, edited
or co-edited by A/Prof. Johnston.
Auslan Signbank was conceived
by him in 1996 but it is only now that improvements in technology
and, most importantly, financial support has made it possible. The
Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children is proud to have supported
his research into Auslan and in the development and publication
of the Auslan dictionaries which has now culminated in Signbank.
The deaf community of Australia
The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children gratefully acknowledges
the support of the Australian deaf community in the Auslan
research conducted at Renwick College. There could be no database
of Auslan or Signbank without the help, enthusiasm and participation
of deaf people and deaf community organizations across Australia.
The names of the many individuals who have helped over the years
are far too many to list here but they can be found in the acknowledgements
to the various dictionaries that have grown out of the Auslan lexical
database: "Auslan Dictionary", "Signs of Australia",
"Discovering Auslan", and "Survival Guide to Auslan".
With Signbank, the participation of the deaf community in an ongoing
manner will be even more important. The Royal Institute for Deaf
and Blind Children wishes to thank the Australian deaf community
in advance for sharing its knowledge and language.
